Cleaning Kitchen Cupboards

Last weekend I went on a cleaning spree. It happens from time to time, and there are those moments when I just have to rearrange everything and clean every little thing that comes into my view. Though cleaning is great, there are times when I know I get carried away. In my last spree, I went crazy taking everything out of my kitchen cupboards, cleaning and scrubbing, and then putting everything back in a different place. Part of me was trying to put things in a more sensible place, and the other part of me just wanted something to change. If that meant putting my soup in a different place, then so be it.

The first thing I did was take everything I could get out of my kitchen cupboards and put them whenever I could find room. It looked like a hurricane had come through, and I was suddenly overwhelmed by what I had just done. I had stuff everywhere. I had no idea I had so much stuff in my kitchen cupboards, and I found things that I didn’t know I had and I had no idea where they may have come from. I found sticky spots that seemed to be there for no reason.

I decided that since I had already emptied out everything from my kitchen cupboards I might as well do a good job. I got out the soap and water and cleaned every surface, and then I even washed the outsides of all of the kitchen cupboards. If I were better at day-to-day cleaning, this might not have been such a chore, but I had to take my time because I didn’t know when I would get to it again. I’m often too busy to clean like I should, so when I do, I have to make it good.

In the end I did move everything around in my kitchen cupboards, and I managed to get rid of some expired items and some other things that I know I will never use again. I have more room now, and I can get to my dishes and glasses easier than before. When I first moved in I just filled the kitchen cupboards as I unpacked and didn’t really think about where I put everything. Things are much easier now, even though it took me an entire day to do it. If you can find the time and the energy, it is a very satisfying cleaning activity.
